Does anybody really care who wins?

I voted for Pat Robertson this year.
He's neat.

In many ways, Communism is better.
Obviously, I wouldn't choose it.

But the concept behind Communism has its redeeming qualities, in my opinion.
The poor don't really get poor like they do here in the United States, because everything is shared.

Again, I'm speaking of Communism as I believe it's intended to be, not how it actually manifests itself.

As far as being interested in politics at all, though, I side with phe on this one, or at least the first part.
They're all corrupt, and our entire governmental system of Capitalism is based on greed and wealth, anyway, so what does it really matter?
I think it's more about what we can do for our fellow man on a personal and community level, thus attempting to create a better country from the ground up.

if we are apathetic like that, though, we lose all power and they get worse. thinking, "oh we can't do crap now about it" and stopping any type of restraint we have on the government (as corrupt as it may be) will only make it worse and possibly destroy the whole country itself.

and on communism, I think you're meaning socialism. Socialism is where everyone is equal. Communism is just socialism with balls (evil dictator). Socialism always turns into communism because of apathy and lack of incentive. The democrats at the moment are basically socialist so if we let go of control and let them have their way, we get socialism, communism, then collapse and anarchy (followed by the taking over of some other country).

Sure, apathy is a bad thing - I'm with you there.
But I think it comes down to prioritizing what it is a person wants to focus on.
If I spend all my time thinking about or following politics and all of the B.S.
that goes with that, I end up either getting pissed, hateful, or losing sight of my personal duties as a human and to my fellow man.
That's just me, though.
We clearly need leaders, I just think that the whole system is so messed up that a good leader couldn't possibly come out of it.

Yeah, I may be thinking about Socialism, who knows?
I'm glad you got what I was getting at, though, thanks!
You clearly know a ton more about it than I do.

I believe that a country based on Capitalism will destroy itself anyway at some point.
When people think of the United States, a LOT of them see us as Hollywood and our famous people, and greed and more greed.
THAT'S what needs to stop, but it can't.
Other countries just don't see us how we see ourselves.

The war.
I mean, how grotesque.
And it's sort of being done in the name of Christianity, and that's about as disgusting as anything could ever be.
For some reason, I just can't picture Jesus over in Iraq strapped with a machine gun, you know?
THAT'S what our country is, and it's sick.

Having said that, I'm glad I live here...I guess.
I mean, I've never lived anywhere else.
Who knows what England is like?
Who knows what Australia is like?
I just haven't BEEN anywhere else, so it's really tough to make comparisons.

One of my friends I think said something about judging a country based on how they treat their poor, sick, starving, and elderly people.
And on those merits, we suck.

Anyway...

Well what form of government do you think is the best?

Who cares what other countries think of us. What matters is how we run what we are without worrying about our reputation.

The war starting was not in the name of Christianity at all. We did the right thing in the beginning. At this point, however, I don't support the war. It still has nothing to do with Christianity though. It has to do with Bush's decision to try to eliminate something that cannot be destroyed. Whoever told you that Christianity is behind this war, they couldn't be more wrong.

England is kinda like us I think except for socialized medicine. They kinda screwed up on that part. I'm pretty sure their government is collapsing or something too. I have no clue about Australia. I never hear anything about them so I guess they're doing alright.

Unfortunately, if we sway more toward that side, we may overcompensate and end up with the socialism I was talking about (which we are actually doing now).

Social Security's screwed so that does away with the elderly and if we give money to the poor, they lose the incentive to even try to make a living since we give it to them anyway and there goes the economy.

I have no idea.
Like I said, I know jack about politics.
I usually intentionally try to stay out of it all.

Quote :

See, I think it DOES matter, a lot.
Countries hate us, and they attack us.
So I feel it really carries a lot of weight.

It's not like someone's peers not liking them.
We're talking about countries or groups of people with such a hatred for us that they fly planes into our buildings, you know?

Quote :

Sure, I agree that Bush probably hasn't said that specifically.
But it's clear that it's the United States vs. Muslims, or at least that idea successfully made its way across the country.
We're the good guys, the Muslims are the bad guys.
That made it a lot easier for us to swallow.
Bush publicly claimed to be a "born again Christian" during that time.
Nice timing.
We pray and sing "God Bless America" in the same breath.
Again, I use the Jesus comparison.
When He told us to love our neighbors, I don't think he meant,
"Kill them". (not my line, I'm not smart enough to come up with that on my own)

And you nailed the reason I just can't get into politics.
Somewhere along the line, it becomes more ABOUT politics than about taking care of people, just as you mentioned.

Well, I've received plenty of assistance from the government, and it hasn't made me lazier, at least to my knowledge.
What about women who were raped, bore a child, and are now raising that child? Should we really not help them because we feel they'll lose the incentive to work?
I simply don't think it's our call to assume what people MIGHT do if we try to help them out, and then make a policy to prevent the assistance.

I'm talking about the others who like to use others to get where they want. Some people, once they find out what they can get, try to get more and milk it for everything they can.

This is what I'm torn between. On one side, it seems heartless, but it might just destroy the country if we give in (just because of those few).

You're absolutely right, and believe me, I'm not "arguing politics", because I just can't.
People do that, and they do it all the time.
But I just think we have to continue to teach and spread kindness, and some will change and NOT do that.
We're screwing the legit people by not.

Well, I believe that Jesus would.
He's the Shepherd who cares immensely for that woman.

By the way, I don't really go on and on about Jesus and Christianity,
but when discussing politics, I just feel that it's necessary due to the way I feel about it.
And the Theology Room.
You probably won't see me comparing what Simon Le Bon sings about to Church hymns!
